Having a developed sense of who you are, what you can do, where you are going, coupled with the ability to influence your communication, emotions and behaviours on the way to getting there have been described as paths to Self-leadership traits.
This was disclosed at the formal opening and inaugural lecture of HAVEK Leadership Academy Fellowship programme webinar held on Sunday, August 28, 2022. The programme is themed: “Self-Leadership: The Tested and Trusted Pathway to a Better Future”. The fellowship programme is organized by the management of HAVEK Leadership Academy, a leadership training academy established by Nasrul-lahi-l-Fatih Society, NASFAT.
Dr. Lukman Raimi, MNIM, FIMC,FIFP, FCEnt, who is an Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship, Universiti Brunei Drussalam, Brunei South East Asia, was the guest lecturer of the day at the inaugural lecture of HAVEK Leadership Academy Fellowship programme webinar and spoke extensively on the theme.
Dr. Raimi said Self-Leadership can be learnt through practice not mere wishful thinking and it is the practice of intentionally influencing one’s thinking, feeling and behaviours to achieve personal set objectives. For Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) counsels Muslims on self-leadership where he states that “Everyone of you is a shepherd and is responsible for his flock” therefore, embarking on the journey of acquiring self-leadership education/knowledge can’t be underestimated because of its numerous benefits especially for humanity.

“Self-leadership is a process, as well as behavioural and mental strategies through which individuals influence themselves to control and manage their actions and inactions.” Some of the pillars of self-leadership as identified by Dr. Raimi are Self-Discovery, Self-Acceptance, Self-Management and Self-Growth while every individual must possess these qualities, to be a renowned Self-leader, who wants to fulfill The Creator’s will and become a leader of impact to his/her country and humanity by extension.
Transparency, Communication, Recognition, Mentorship, Honesty, Fairness, Humanity, Inspiration and Negotiation are qualities of Self-leadership, he highlighted.

The N3,500 paid by the participants is just to test their interest in the course.” said the President of NASFAT and Chief Host- Mr Olaniyi Yusuf.
According to Mr. Yusuf, “For now HAVEK programme is saddled with two major strong responsibilities namely; Building leaders among the leaderships of faith-based/Islamic organizations. Initiating programmes for individuals for the development of young leaders, aspiring leaders.
“So today marks another step in many ways NASFAT is contributing to the growth of Ummah beyond Asalatu. I congratulate the lucky 25 scholars who are able to scale through and become the pioneer Fellows of the programme out of over 160 applicants.
