Lagos Teacher Bags Seven Years Imprisonment For Fondling A Student’s Breast

September 20, 2022

Idowu Daniel, a 31-year-old teacher, was found guilty of sexually abusing a 16-year-old student inside a school and was sentenced to seven years in prison on Monday.

The defendant was accused of defilement. The victim did not appear in court to give a statement. Hence, the Honourable Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo ruled that the prosecution had failed to prove the charge of defilement against the defendant.

She claimed that the defendant’s voluntary confessional admission demonstrated that he sexually molested the minor.

The defendant acknowledged trying to have sex with the victim but was unsuccessful because she was a virgin. He admitted to fondling her breasts twice.

She declared, “The defendant is hereby found guilty of the accusation of sexual assault of a child.” When prompted to speak, the prisoner begged for forgiveness in his allocutous.

“My Lord, I really apologise for what took place. I guarantee it won’t happen once more. “The defendant informed the court.

The judge also chastised the defendant for caressing the victim in a provocative manner, saying that if the child had spoken in court, the defendant would have received a life sentence.

“You were stroking the student’s breast while you were a teacher. If the victim had appeared in court to give testimony, you would have requested a life sentence. ”

Despite having previously sentenced the defendant to five years in prison, Justice Taiwo raised his sentence to seven years in prison without the possibility of a fine after noting that he had been detained for three years.

The defendant, who resides in Lagos’ Abule-Egba neighbourhood, was found guilty of defiling.

When he committed the crime on June 27, 2019, at 9.25 a.m., Daniel was 28 years old.

In the biology lab at Anastasia Comprehensive College, Abule-Egba, Ikeja, he had illicit carnal knowledge of his student.

He was placed on remand at Kirikiri prison sometime in July 2019 by Chief Magistrate Olufunke Sule-Amzat.
