LagosRide Taxi Not Permitted To Drive On BRT Corridors – Lagos Govt.

The Lagos State Government has clarified that LagosRide taxi drivers are not permitted to drive on Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridors, nor at liberty to go against traffic on any of Lagos’ roads contrary to the operators attitude been noticed in the public after the ride kicked off operation earlier 2022.
It said that the drivers’ impunity on BRT corridors was becoming alarming and that there is need to address the situation so as not to encourage other motorists in abusing the state’s traffic law.
To the Lagos state government, the taxi scheme operators must call its drivers to order and should ensure they obey the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.
The General Manager, LASTMA, Bolaji Oreagba, stated that behaviors of LagosRide taxis’ drivers on Lagos roads were not in accordance with what were expected of them and that the scheme management need to warn and checkmate their excesses.
Oreagba, through a statement released by the Director, Public Affairs, LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, on Sunday, in Lagos, claimed that the actions of the drivers was an indication that they do not consider safety of other roads’ users, and also encouraging disobedient against the state’s traffic law.
He said that recklessness on Lagos roads would no longer be tolerated as impunity of drivers on BRT corridors was becoming alarming
“We would no longer condone their recklessness as we shall continue to apply the full weight of the Law on motorists found contravening any sections of the Traffic Laws”. he said.
“Let me state here clearly that impunity of drivers of these ‘LagosRide’ Taxi driving on BRT corridors and obstructions on major roads is becoming alarming.
As a responsible and responsive agency of government,we would no longer condone their recklessness as we shall continue to apply the full weight of the Law on motorists found contravening any sections of the Traffic Laws”.
The General Manager further commended the Governor of the state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and Ibile Holdings Limited for the wonderful initiative at creating jobs for the unemployed through the scheme.
On his part, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Ibile Holdings, Abiodun Amokomowo, said that the company is an investment company of the Lagos State Government created to spur its economic growth by supporting commerce, viable and strategic industries.
According to him, as a way of ensuring the safety of riders and passengers, each ‘LagosRide’ Taxi is installed with a full security gadget including a 360 dashboard camera for auto visual feeds to the control centre.
Amokomowo noted that each driver of ‘LagosRide’ Taxi provides a full verification which includes Lagos State Drivers’ Institute (LASDRI) I.D Cards, medical history, verification of NIN and Lagos resident registration numbers and other background checks before being considered for the scheme.
He further commended LASTMA and all field officers for the efficiency in ensuring proper management and control of traffic across the state.
