The Muslim Writers Guild of Nigeria has announced to hold its 2022 Annual Conference virtually on Sunday, 27 November, 2022, by 4:30PM (15:30 GMT), with the theme: Demystifying the Nitty-gritty of Jihad of the Pen and Media in our Contemporary Time.
This was contained in a press release made available to various media outlets on Thursday, 24 November, by the National Chairman of the prestigious Guild, Al-Hafiz Yunus Omotayo.Speaking on the unique features of this year’s edition of the conference, Mr. Yunus said that the conference promises to be engaging and impactful as it will have the global media giant and Islamic scholar, Mr. Syed Amer Safir, who is the Manager and Editor-in-Chief of United Kingdom’s longest running Islamic magazine, the Review of Religions, delivering the key-note address on the theme of the conference.
The prominent Islamic scholar also disclosed that the event will be presided by the Missionary-in-Charge of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at of Nigeria, His Eminence, Maulvi Adnan Tahir, who will be flanked by a host of special guests of honour that include leaders of Muslim religious bodies, youth organizations and student associations, as well as distinguished Muslim legal and media practitioners and academics of national repute, among others.
While highlighting the rationale of the conference and the chosen theme, he declared that, “the theme has been carefully christened with a view to exposing the participants to the essentials of non-violent, intellectual Jihad through the media in our contemporary time that has seen continued and widespread distortion and misrepresentation of the teachings of Islam, particularly by a host of Islamophobes and detractors of Islam in Nigeria and across the world.”“It is compelling to inform that one of the core objectives of the Guild is to respond rapidly and systematically to media coverage of Islam and its critics through publication of scholarly rejoinders and intellectual contents with a view to defending the honour and sanctity of Islam,” he stated. Adding that, “It also strives to disabuse the mind of the public that Islam condemns terrorism and all forms of violence and promotes mutual understanding, respect, tolerance, peace and common brotherhood and unity of mankind.
”He further revealed that the event will also feature the presentation of annual performances report of the activities and achievements of the Islamic literary Guild during the calendar year 2021-2022, among other features.Speaking on those eligible to participate in the programme, he disclosed that “participation in the conference is not exclusively reserved for the registered members of the Guild, as it is open widely to interested participants from the general public who will have the opportunity to join the event through the following:
