INTERNATIONAL DAY OF ELIMINATING VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN: 𝐃𝐑. (𝐌𝐑𝐒) 𝐈𝐃𝐈𝐀𝐓 𝐎𝐋𝐔𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐈 𝐀𝐃𝐄𝐁𝐔𝐋𝐄 ADMONISHES MEN, WOMEN TO UNITE AND JOIN THE CAMPAIGN.
Today, 25th of November is a day set aside yearly to observe International Day of Elimination of Violence against women worldwide.
Though we can not disregard the fact that women go through one form of violence or the other each day, yet this day is a special day to emphasize on the need to come together in eliminating violence against women.
Violence against women is becoming a norm in not only our society but around the world. I join the world today to lend my voice to other women who have suffered or going through one form of violence or the other.
Likewise, I commend the women who were able to rise above all odds to exonerate themselves from violence while my heart is with those who lost their lives as a result of violence.
The United Nations General Assembly defines violence against women as “any act of gender-based violence that results in, or is likely to result in, physical, sexual or psychological harm or suffering to women, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurring in public or in private life”.
We need to always remember that no Nation can thrive successfully without women.
Dear men, be of support to the women while other women as well should support and speak up and show up for fellow women.
Like the popular saying, “No man is an island”, we need the support of each other.
“Our dear sisters, mothers, brothers and fathers, I implore us to add our voice to the UNITE Campaign which features 16 days of activism beginning today for the elimination of violence against women”.
“Our dear fathers, sons and brothers, this activism is not a SheForShe alone but also HeForShe. Remember that our mothers, wives and daughters are women”.
“Take the responsibility today to be an agent of change in your community by voicing out when you notice any act of violence. Change begins from You and I and from our immediate environment”.
“Whatever the problem, be part of the solution. Don’t just sit around raising questions and pointing out obstacles.”
When you see something, say something
