Nasfat LZ1 Edu. Comm. holds career talk, honours Secretaries

The education committee of the Nasrul-Lahi-L-Fatih Society NASFAT, Lagos Zone 1 has organised career talk to further inform, enlighten and put the children and young-adults in the society on the right track in their choice of careers.
The event organised by the Zone’s education committee on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at the Mende-Maryland Branch of the society under the co-ordination of Alhaja Modinat Baderinwa was also held to appreciate and honour past secretaries of the committee for their stewardship.
According to Alhaja Baderinwa in her address, said, “the need to open the eyes of the young children into the numerous opportunities available in variety of careers is indeed of great importance, as more career opportunities are coming up especially in this era of advanced information technology specifically the AI, artificial intelligence which is likely to dominate future activities.”
“So, preparing the minds of these children and young-adults and exposing them to different areas where they can pick their prospects or interest with passion is paramount, hence, the programme is put together to help them in this regard.”
“That’s why young graduates who are vast and experienced in this area and other fields from prestigious higher institutes of learning have been invited to interact with them in the language, the youth themselves understand.”
“It’s good to reward efforts, as this psychologically, illustrates the acknowledgement and appreciation of actions and deeds of people and it enables them to do more as well as encourages others to emulate those who strive in the cause of Allah SWT. As good deeds can also indeed be rewarded here on earth and which is very minute to the magnitude rewards that the doer of the good deed will receive and enjoy from Allah SWT here and in the Hereafter.”
In thier presentation, the trio of AbdulRahman Bakare, Nasirudeen Alabi and AbdulWariz all products of University of Lagos (UNILAG) collectively opined and emphasised that, all careers can be found in the Quran and Sunnah, they are only rebranded. Therefore, there are variety of careers that Muslim children and youth can pursuit without derailing from the teachings of Islam.
The following were enumerated and highlighted as different aspects in Tech industry and education sector, that are in vogue and lucrative, which are ways to impact positively on humanity.
In the technology industry, such careers as Frontend Development, this is a highly creative field that requires a deep understanding of UX design and CSS.
According to him, “a front-end developer creates the user interface and the user experience of a website. For example, the way a website looks, how easy it is to find information, how quickly it loads etc.this is what front-end development as a career entails.”
Backend Development, this means working on server-side software, which focuses on everything one can’t see on a website. Back-end developers ensure the website performs correctly, focusing on databases, back-end logic, application programming interface (APIs), architecture, and servers. The use of code that helps browsers communicate with databases, store, understand, and delete data is done here.
Other career opportunities in the Tech industry are Full stack Development, UI/UX Design, Cyber Security, Virtual Assistant Project Management Content creation/Video Editing Digital Marketing Social Media Handling etc
Such careers as Education Administration, Educational Technology, Human Kinetics and Health Education, Education In Languages, Adult Education, Early Childhood Education, Guidance and Counseling, Social Work are all areas that can be chosen as career choice.
The event has in attendance more than 100 participants including parents, education secretaries, stakeholders in children upbringing and education.
The participants were also taken into career opportunities in Law, business administration among others with their prerequisite requirements, courses available obtainable in the faculties as well as job opportunities that can be found on them.
The former Nasfat National Education Secretary, Dr. Rahmah Adisa while presenting her paper on the theme, Discover Yourself: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow emphasised that the participants need to look inside them and find that very thing that they’re passionate about, that they love doing with ease, “this is what you should be focused on and work around for its realisation for the good of humanity and to serve the purpose it has been designed for.”
“Most importantly the role of mentorship can’t be underestimated as this will help to ensure the potentials, deposited in each individual can be well harnessed and guided to be put into proper and positive use.”
The Zonal Chairman, Alh. Engr. Mustapha Alabi in his remark advised and encouraged the participants to hold onto three agents of life, especially at this stage, these are essential keys to aid in achieving their dreams, Passion, Personal Quality and dynamics.
“What these three keys Passion, I mean do what you really like doing, what you have affection for, what you have interest in that’s your passion, identify and work on it; Personal Quality simply means the worth of an individual, how good or excellent are you in what you do? Your answer to this will identify the quality you have, so evaluate yourself then Dynamics simply implies changes or changing, the world is dynamic, it changes so you need to make yourself available for changes but all these must not go against the teachings of Islam because you as Muslims are ambassadors of Islam, the religion of peace and humanity.” He prayed that Allah SWT would continue to guide your paths.”
“Your environment, the kind of family you come front doesn’t determine how well you will do or how great you will become in life, your future lies in your hands, determination, hard work and prayers will make you actualise your dreams. Do not look down on yourself. Even if you come from the ghetto, that doesn’t mean you can be a leader or successful person, so believe in yourself, increase your efforts, work harder and pray to Allah SWT for His guidance and wisdom and you shall achieve your dreams.” The Vice Chairman LZ1, Alh. Taofeek Adele said.
High point of the event was the presentation of plaque to appreciate past education secretaries in the Zone, among the recipients was late Alh. Late Chief Asorin Amidu who was given posthumous appreciation and recognition for his selflessness and dedication during his tenure as education Secretary at Nasfat Mende-Maryland Branch received by his wife, children and family members.
Kiin Media correspondent at the event reported that the children, young-adults and parents at the programme expressed their profound gratitude for such interaction especially the career talk section where a lot of enlightenment on career opportunities were made known to the participants and burning questions raised were responded to in a clear manner. They however, implore the organisers to bring more of such programme as this really helped to widen their horizon on the kind of career they can go into.
