Hassan Ibrahim has been detained, according to the Kwara State Police Command, for reportedly killing his 90-year-old father, Sabi, a retired army corporal, and stealing the man’s ATM card to use to withdraw money from the state.
After committing the crime, Hassan buried his victim’s body and escaped to Kaduna State, where he had been covertly using his father’s ATM card to obtain money.
Ajayi Okasanmi, the state police public relations officer, spoke about the suspect at the police headquarters in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Thursday. He said Hassan was detained as a result of a report made by his sister Aishat.
He stated, “On August 5, 2022, a woman named Aishat Ibrahim reported that her father, Sabi Ibrahim, a retired army corporal who was 90 years old, was missing to the police headquarters.
His disappearance circumstances raised suspicions, so the command was determined to find out what caused it.
“The biological son of the missing elderly man was arrested as a result of the investigation. During the course of the investigation, the suspect admitted to injecting his father with a mixture of paracetamol and other drugs, which caused him to instantly become weak and disoriented.
He carried out this action after returning from the bank, where he took his father to renew and pick up his ATM card. The suspect then drove his father to a remote, unfinished building, where he strangled him. The suspect had borrowed the motorcycle.
After robbing his father of the Wema Bank ATM card and burying him there to hide the crime, Hassan, according to Okesanmi, fled to Kaduna State and began making withdrawals from his deceased father’s account.
He withdrew N59,000 in total. Hassan continued by saying that the reason for killing his father was to rid himself of the ATM card because he already knew the pin.
