MURIC PAID COURTESY VISIT TO THE OFFICE OF THE LAGOS STATE COMMISSIONER FOR EDUCATION
September 18, 2022
It will be recalled that the Supreme Court of Nigeria delivered judgement on hijab which gave resounding victory to the Muslims. This was on Friday 17th July, 2022. In spite of this clear, authoritative and unequivocal pronouncement, female Muslim students are still being harassed and persecuted by school authorities in the state.
It is in this regard that, an Islamic human rights advocacy group, Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) requested for audience with the Lagos State Commissioner for Education and which was granted.
Director, Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), Professor Ishaq Akintola made this known in a report given at the end of the visitation made available to newsmen.
In the entourage with MURIC were some other Islamic organizations who went on this cause. The 7-man team
included the Muslim Lawyers Association (MULAN), FOMWAN, Hijab Advocates, Coalition For Hijab and the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN). The visit took place on Tuesday, 13th September, 2022.
“At the meeting, our team raised the need for the Lagos State Government (LASG) to issue a circular announcing the approval of hijab in all Lagos schools in view of the favourable judgement given by the Supreme Court on the subject matter on Friday, 17th July, 2022.”
“We are pleased to report that the Honourable Commissioner, in the presence of her permanent secretary, directors and staff, promised to issue the circular and a press statement to that effect. We expect the circular to surface any time from now.”
The 7-man team however used the opportunity to offer prayers for the oppressed Muslims in Nigeria, Palestine, China, India and other countries of the world.
